An educator from Kunri belonging to a Kohli community of Hindu faith, Aasu is a physically challenged individual due to a wrong injection given to her by a local doctor while giivng her a polio vaccine. She graduated on her own walking to school in Kunri and then Samaro Road town near her village MeeNa ji DhaaNi and then for secondary education she used to go to Samaro Road in buses where she was mistreated because of her disability because the bus conductor would look at her and say she is disabled and poor surely she won’t give the fare so they wouldn’t even help her if she lost her crutch or the cane she was holding would fall from her hand. But God Almighty is always with the under dog, He helped her get noticed and come to New York where she was a guest of Malala Yusufzai and met the US president Barack Obama. Proudly wearing the Sindhi Ajrak she entered the UN. Aasu (right) is a true daughter of the soil of Sindh. Aasu Kohli is her name, she is fondly called Baii in Sindhi which is honorific for girls in Sindhi and Gujarati cultures.
