The Junior Girl Scouts of Austin’s Troop 471 wanted to call the attention of the adult world to the dangers that they face with climate change as they grow up. With their leader, Marty McDougal, they planned a rally on the steps of the Texas State Capitol and enlisted the aid of City Council Members Delia Garza and Ann Kitchen as well as local environmental activists like Dave Cortez from Sierra Club, Jackie Goodman of Save Barton Springs Association and musician – Mr. Habitat – Bill Oliver. This troop – known as the Lightening Bolts – showed their concern for a livable future in a big way in Austin.
