Ireland week I told you!!

The Morrigan and the Celtic Cross.

It was said that St. Patrick combined the powerful pagan symbol of the sun circle with the cross to help ease conversions to the new faith.

The Morrigan and her crow foretold the death of heroes. She was a goddess of war, birth and death. She was later associated with the Lady of the Lake who escorted the dying King Arthur to Avalon. She landed as a crow on the shoulder of the great hero Cuchulain when he was mortally wounded in battle.

(getting a bit of grief from Flickr- faves and groups not showing up today and even an unavailable image- seems back in order now)
