Teenage Pregnancy – A Blessing Or Curse?

Statistics have revealed that at least 4 out of 10 girls get pregnant at least once before their twentieth birthday. This trend is set to get worse as indicators are pointing to the next generation exceeding the present trend. What has caused the occurrence of this issue?

Teenage pregnancy has more vices than virtues. A group of people may not agree totally. Firstly the disintegration of the family unit is the worse culprit aside the main and real problem of a Godless society. What we see today is a society which has slowly but surely been driven away from God. We have therefore, replaced this lost and unmatchable relationship with other things like alcohol, sex, sports and other un fulfilling activities.

The breakdown of the family unit, where a mother or father is left to raise a child has a disastrous effect especially where the remaining parent is also the bread winner. To cover such parents’ insufficiency children are left to be educated by the media and are exposed to uncontrollable spending habits. The media has played a catastrophic role in making our teens, who in their current situations have not developed any skills, trade or personal development to see just one side of life. A life of engaging in sexual activity at an unripe age. The media has successfully erased any sense of dignity, morality and modesty in the life of the precious teen.

What life has a teen got to give their young? What good training or advice has a rebellious teen got to imbibe into their own children, however as mentioned before, the blame is not entirely theirs, but our Godless society is a major contributing factor and also the credit card way of living must be dissuaded.

On the other hand looking at the present health of our teens which has been dwindling and going down faster than ever, there is a need to concern ourselves with childbirth and to consider at what age a woman or man is most fertile. More and more teens are experiencing problems with their reproductive organs; girls are having severe menstrual pains which when left undiagnosed at an early time could lead to future complications leading to infertility. Likewise some teenage boys are experiencing low sperm count than what the average male is supposed to have.

These health problems have a major link with the kinds of foods being consumed today. Our highly over processed, genetically modified and easy to cook foods are what is causing these early health problems. Imagine a teen craving for and eating fish and chips, cooked with bad fatty oils after school, what nutritional value is found in this food apart from the taste and flavour it gives? Our teens are hooked on dead foods examples of which are crisps, carbonated drinks, soda and lots more resulting in the early signs of ill health. What has happened to eating healthily, to eating the right portions of the 7 essential nutrients the body needs, especially fruits, vegetables and nuts? A wise man once said “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.”

We need to educate our teens and quickly too, as having no entrepreneurial skills, a vocation or a trade and bringing a child into this world will cause great havoc to our society as a whole. Also training their taste buds to eat healthily from an early age will prevent them from facing fertility problems should they decide to further their education and careers to postpone childbirth to a later stage in their lives. The right time will be after their marriages which is the wise choice. Note that children are a blessing from God and the timing of their birth is crucial to their well-being, their uniqueness and contribution to our planet earth.
